Business of the Week

Appomattox County Historical Society

The Appomattox County Historical Society was founded in 1971 and has been a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization continuously since 1974. The Society’s mission is to bring together those people interested in preserving and promoting the heritage of Appomattox County, Virginia, and surrounding areas.

The Society operates two facilities, the Appomattox County Historical Museum and Library located at 337 Court St. in the old county jail building in Courthouse Square, and Clover Hill Village, a six acre living history village located at 5747 River Ridge Road, Appomattox, VA 24522.

Clover Hill Village is home to an annual wine festival now in its eighth year.  The “Village” also hosts school group field trips, weddings in the Wesley Chapel Church building, Civil War living history encampments, Boy Scout camping trips, and other special events.

The “Old Jail” museum and library building is featured every year during Railroad Festival weekend as the center of the Good Ole Days exhibition.  The building also houses the newly opened genealogy and local history library.

Both facilities are open seasonally April 1 - October 31, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 10:00 - 4:00.

For more information on county historical research, facilities and events, or to join, find us on Facebook at Appomattox County Historical Society and on the web  You can also contact the Society by mail at P.O. Box 253, Appomattox, VA 24522.
